Testing the Bond Strength of a Jahn Limestone Repair [video]

This video captured an extemporaneous moment at the end of a recent Jahn Certification Workshop. An attendee wanted to test the strength of his 4-hours-old limestone repair. He decided to stack bricks on top of the overhanging repair — how many would it take to cause a failure?

The limestone repair in the video is 4-5 inches deep and was done with no pins and no bonding agents. The substrate was not prepped or scarified for the repair. The repair was completed 4 hours before the first brick was placed on top.

Completing a sound water table repair is a key part of the Jahn Restoration Certification Workshop. While most would not do this type of repair in a single lift, we teach how to do this to illustrate how Jahn Restoration Mortars perform on such large buildouts — and in such a short period of time.
